THE SAFE METHOD
SAFE in SCHOOLS introduces a new, very efficient method that inspires all participants of Street Arts playshops in creating an optimal (enough) state of being – what we call our State of Playing (also known as playing in FLOW)– at the beginning of each SAFE AREA session.
Each student will receive a Manual with a practical step-to-step approach. We use simple guidelines, accompanied by symbols and gestures, to encourage each player to “take a break from the world” - from all their preoccupations, friends and often continous "i-screen info" to "what's for lunch?" - in order to fully focus on and enjoy their Street Art practice and – once they are in their State of Playing – get the very best out of their session whether they continue individually or join others for group sessions or games.
Here is the Manual: SAFE AREA Manual.
An illustrated version for the younger students (grade 4 and younger) is in the planning. Part of our leadership programs both in elementary as in high schools is to train older students in presenting the guidelines from the SAFE AREA Manual in a simple way to younger students.
The SAFE Method can also be used in college and university programs, in community centers and any type of youth organization.
The SAFE AREA Manual will be made available as downloads for computers and i-phones.
The Manual is summarized on the SAFE AREA Poster that will be posted on the walls of every SAFE in SCHOOLS session (and be featured on video clips, Facebook pages, etc.)
For educators, teachers, administrators, parents and sponsors, here is a short explanation of the poster: About the SAFE AREA Poster.
For any questions, don't hesistate to write us on the Team / Contact page.
The formula we use for our SAFE playshops not only inspires EVERYBODY (including those who are having a rough time in general or a rough day today), it is the same formula that leads to OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE. Anybody who plays without restrictions like fear of failure and other sources of stress can fully experience the many benefits of their sport, form of art or streetgame.
SAFE in SCHOOLS works with a form describing the benefits of the Street Arts. Special care counselors, educators, teachers and (interested) parents are invited to fill out which of these benefits fits best the needs of their clients, students or children. They don’t only aim at the (often obvious) needs of the youngsters with behavioural or learning challenges. They also have a powerful influence on the many young people of our modern digital epoch who have developed (sometimes not obvious) attention and motivation challenges.
Here you can download the form: Benefits of Street Games & Arts.
What is so unique about the SAFE Method is that it is not only a very efficient approach for any player - from “whatever” background, beginners to stars – to find their State of Playing but, on top of that, everybody who gets into playing the SAFE way, will also be directly able to facilitate others to start using it. It is a simple recipe (to be applied by each individual in his / her own way!) that can easily be passed on. It can spread fast through a school (or community center or any other youth organization), especially when coaches, teachers or animators recognize the “LASER effect” of the SAFE method both on their players’/students’ individual skills, as on the group dynamics in their teams and classes. Furthermore the method can be easily adapted in a complementary way to everybody's own approaches.
Our goal is to spread the SAFE Method widely and offer new and unique options to finance and sustain our SAFE programs. On both the Poster and the Manual there is space to showcase our local and provincial / national sponsors.
Local sponsors finance the SAFE program in the school, community center or any other youth organization in their neighbourhood (material, introduction sessions, sustainability of the programs).
Provincial / national sponsors finance SAFE in SCHOOLS. Their logos / web sites will be on all posters and manuals (and video clips, Facebook pages) of all schools, community centers and youth organizations who have adopted the SAFE program. They will advertise in all the households of all SAFE players everywhere. For more information, see Sponsors & Donors.
